Using Excel for Mac v 14.7.1 on a Mac Mini OS x 10.9.5. I've used Excel heavily for years. I created a new spreadsheet and when I try to save it I get pop-up message 'Document was not saved' No explanation as to why it is not saved. I copied the data onto a new workbook but that also will not save. Apple has 'Pages' and 'Numbers' which are able to work with, respectively, Word and Excel files. You can purchase and download both from the App Store in your Dock. Both have the ability to export files as Word and Excel if you need to send files to other people who don't have Macs. Each is $20.
